Breakfast & Apple Picking— an easy portrait session.
A session that will forever hold a big place in my heart, photos that I will always treasure. Photos I will hang on my own wall, and proudly show my kids one day accompanied by the story behind them.
I gifted my Grammie and Papa a photo session a while back— I can’t even remember if it was a Christmas gift, birthday, or exactly how long ago. At the time, they felt too overwhelmed to take me up on it. They were living in Florida and taking care of my great grandma, Mamette, who has since passed. Fast forward, they’ve moved back to Michigan and thought it was the perfect time to get their photos taken.
The original plan was to go to the Holland Farmer’s Market for their session. They go every week, sometimes more than once a week. It seemed like a fun and natural place to go. But, when I reached out to confirm the plan with them, they asked if they could switch things up.
Their new idea was to hit Pennyroyal in Saugatuck for breakfast, specifically the blueberry pancakes. They’ve talked about these pancakes for months, and wanted me to try them. The funny thing is, Grammie and Papa are vegan. These pancakes are definitely not.
Next, they wanted to head to pick apples. Honeycrisp to be specific.
So, that’s exactly what we did. I loved the change of plans. This morning with the two of them felt so special. We got to talk, catch up, enjoy the beautiful weather, and of course the melt-in-your-mouth pancakes. And those juicy nectarines we sampled right there in the field. I will always remember that taste. Grammie says the best peach or nectarine is the one you have to eat over the kitchen sink. The one that makes juice drip all down your chin.
Ready to go grab breakfast at your favorite place? Go fruit picking? I’d love to follow you around with a camera and document you. It’s such an easy going and fun way to take photos.
